SULLIVAN, Edward Patrick (Father)
SULLIVAN, Edward Patrick (Father) (Waukon, IA, Jan. 21, 1909-Dubuque, IA, July 8, 1982). Former art chairman of LORAS COLLEGE. Sullivan was ordained a priest on June 11, 1938, at ST. RAPHAEL'S CATHEDRAL. He served as the art chairman at Loras College for thirty years beginning in 1947 and saw the department enrollment surge from three students to 150. He also served as the Dean of Men from 1949 through 1956 when he was named Director of Student Affairs. Sullivan retired in August 1976, and was named Professor Emeritus of Art at Loras in 1979.
A respected artist, Father Sullivan's "Village of St. Donatus," a watercolor, represented the State of Iowa at the 1964 New York World's Fair and was part of a Ford traveling exhibit. In 1966 Sullivan assisted the Dubuque Women's Club by encouraging local artists to exhibit at the annual White Picket Fence Art Show. He subsequently was known as "Dubuque's Old Master" and became a frequent and popular after-dinner speaker.
