BAKER, Martha. (Dubuque, IA-Dubuque, IA, Feb. 1962). Charter member of the Y.W.C.A. Baker, the daughter of Frances McNear BAKER, was a member of the first building committee of the Y.W.C.A. She was also a founder of the VISITING NURSE ASSOCIATION in Dubuque.

In her later years, Baker fondly remembered a kiss she received at the age of three from Ulysses S. Grant and an annual charity ball given to raise funds for the HOME OF THE FRIENDLESS, renamed MOUNT PLEASANT HOME.

Her home and property were willed to FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH at the time of her death. Her residence was later demolished for the addition of an educational wing to the church.
