LYONS, Edwin Lee. In 1979 Lyons was awarded the designation of Knight Cross of Honour, the highest degree in the York Rite of Freemasonary. With the award, Lyons became one of about 400 of the more than 4.25 million Freemasons in North America, the Ohlippines, and Australia to quality annually. Membership was by invitation only. Lyons held the office of commander of Siloam Commandery, Knights Templar in 1972; master of Dubuque Council, Royal and Select Masters in 1973; high priest, Royal Arch Masons in 1974; and master of Metropolitan Lodge of Masons in 1978.
