RASTATTER, C. A.
RASTATTER, C. A. (Erie, PA, Mar. 3, 1857--Dubuque, IA, May 5, 1900). Rastatter came to the Dubuque in 1887. He married Miss Matilda Stuber in 1889 and they had two children.
Considered one of the outstanding musicians of the city, Rastatter had a large conservatory and was considered a fine composer. His violin studies were taught in musical colleges across the United States. One of his collections was entitled RASTATTER'S ANALYTICAL VIOLIN SCHOOL. In 1889 when he had just assumed the leadership of the Dubuque Liederkranz, he was also serving as the director of the Saegerbund, Helvetia Maennerchor, and the DUBUQUE CORNET BAND. (1) In 1892 he was the director of the Luxemburg Society, RASTATTER'S JUVENILE BRASS BAND and an orchestra of fifteen musicians. (2)
In 1894 friends along with members of the band and orchestra hosted a dinner for him before he left for an eastern publishing company to direct the publication of another instruction book. (3)
