KOUTRE, James. (Monolithos, Greece, Sept. 25, 1903--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 21, 1999). Koutre immigrated to the United States alone at the age of sixteen and settled in Dubuque in 1923.

Beginning in the 1930s, he helped operate and then became the owner of DIAMOND'S CAFETERIA AND GRILLE. He sold the restaurant in 1962. He was the last of five men from Diamond's who founded BETTY JANE HOMEMADE CANDIES.

James was survived by his wife Madonna M. KOUTRE.
