FRITH, Thomas E. (Chatham, England, Jan. 9, 1815--Jan. 24, 1907). Frith emigrated to the United States in 1841 and settled in Dubuque in 1857. (1) In 1859 he began a small business in the manufacture of fertilizer in a frame building north of Dubuque near the Sageville Road. The business expanded and his brother purchased an interest in the company. Eugene E. Frith, the son of the founder, then entered the business and soon purchased both his father's and uncle's interests. (2) Thomas entered the liquor business for a short time and later operated a meat market. This was a profitable business and he was the market master for the city. (3)

In 1859 Frith established the FRITH RENDERING WORKS at EAGLE POINT. He operated this business the rest of his life. (4)
