Operations began with the production of six barrels of beer daily with all the supplies obtained from St. Louis. (1)

Increased business led to plant expansion in 1856 and 1860 with the addition of buildings along Couler Avenue for office and residence. The house, made of brick, was three stories high, 90'x40'. The brewery, made of brick, was three stories high and 90'x40'. The malt house was four stories tall, 100'x40' and constructed of stone. Fourteen employees were hired and the production rose to 700 barrels of beer every 25 days.(2)
