SOUTHERN LAND AND INVESTMENT COMPANY. Incorporated on January 10, 1895, this company was organized by Dorrance Dixon MYERS, [[KIENE, Peter|Peter KIENE], S. D. Ryan, C. E. Wales, and James Harragan and capitalized at $300,000. The purpose of the company was to purchase land anywhere in the United States, develop it, and then encourage settlement from any part of the United States or foreign country. While not stated specifically, the intent was to develop land in the south. Options had been made on large tracts in Louisiana and Mississippi.
