SCHROEDER, Frank
SCHROEDER, Frank. (Diekirch, Luxemburg, July 16,1849-Unknown). Schroeder and his parents came from New Orleans to Dubuque by steamboat on May 17, 1855. He earned his first money carrying newspapers. His business career was started as a porter in the wholesale grocery business owned by W. H. RUMPF. He rose in the business to became a shipping clerk and later house salesman.
In addition to being one of the founders of the Key City Insurance Company, Schroeder assisted in establishing the DUBUQUE ALTAR MANUFACTURING COMPANY and served on the board of directors of both companies. He was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention held in Chicago in 1880 prior to being elected county treasurer in 1895. He was re-elected without opposition in 1897. Schroeder was a member of the DUBUQUE TRAVELING AND BUSINESS MEN'S ASSOCIATION, the DUBUQUE LUXEMBURG SOCIETY and the Dubuque Germania Society.
In 1881 Schroeder entered the wholesale grocery business with J. H. Kleine. Along with Kleine, F. A. Rumpf, and Mrs. J. P. Ferring, Schroeder incorporated his business to form the SCHROEDER-KLEINE GROCER COMPANY in which he served as president.
