PROFESSIONAL WALLEYE TRAIL. Sponsored by In-Fisherman Inc., the three day event beginning on May 8, 1997 brought more than 250 anglers, 130 of them professional, to Dubuque competing for $184,000 in cash and prizes. (1)

Dubuque was the first of four "pro-am" qualifying events. After the four events the top forty professionals, by weight of fish caught, qualified for the championship meet held on the Missouri River near Bismarck. Pro anglers fished with an amateur on each day of the event. (2)

Fisherman were expected to bring $500,000 into the area during the event. (3)

In the nine year history of the event, local anglers (from Dubuque) finished first (Steve Haferbecker), second (Dave Flury) and third (Dennis Pickel) in the amateur category. (4)
