COMPANY CHRISTMAS GIFTS. In 1879 the Dubuque Herald carried an article describing the Christmas gifts employees received. The companies mentioned and their gifts are as follows:
COOPER WAGON WORKS. . . . . . . . . .each employee received a turkey and a can of oysters
ANDREW, TREDWAY AND SONS. . . . . . .each employee received ten dollars
V. HERANCOURT . . . . . . . . . . . .each employee received a sack of oatmeal
WESTPHAL, HINDS AND COMPANY . . . . .each married employee received two turkeys and two cans of
oysters, unmarried employees received one turkey and one can of oysters
JULIEN HOUSE. . . . . . . . . . . . .each woman employee received a share of 230 yards of calico,
the men were given "something to keep them warm"
