MRS. H. R. FARR. Mrs. Farr started her business in 1878 and offered a large stock of hair and manufactured wigs, waves, curls, masquerade wigs, and did all kinds of hair work. She also repaired furs.

She rented wigs for twenty-five cents. (1) In 1879 the Dubuque Herald reported incorrectly that fifty people had won her wigs to the reception for Mr. and Mrs. U. S. Grant. She corrected the report by saying that the actual number was thirty-five. (2)

The 1878-79 and 1880 Dubuque City Directory listed 9th opposite the post office.
