SCHREIBER, C. W. (Lucerne, Switzerland, Dec. 3, 1847--Unknown). Schreiber came to Iowa in 1851. A peddler for many years, it is probable that he was the first Jewish pioneer to have come to this region. (1) After serving in the Union Army during the CIVIL WAR, he came to Dubuque in 1868 and worked for ROUSE AND DEAN.

In 1877, he entered into business with a Mr. Strinsky in the firm of SCHREIBER & STRINSKY, the first junk dealers. They were later proprietors of the KEY CITY IRON WORKS on Eighth Street between Iowa and Clay.

J. Jecklin and Schreiber were issued a patent for a method of operating chucks. (2)
