ASBURY PLAZA
ASBURY PLAZA. Development planned to become the largest retail center in Dubuque since KENNEDY MALL. In December 1995, the Dubuque Zoning Commission voted 5-1 in favor of the development of the center by Wendell Corey. Located on eighty acres of land on the northwest corner of the intersection of the NORTHWEST ARTERIAL and Asbury Road, the center was planned for thirty-two stores offering 500,000 square feet of retail space. The completed center at a project cost of $40 million was expected to generate between 1,000 and 1,500 jobs.
In November 1996, Corey announced that an additional 110 acres had been purchased to incorporate into the development. The additional land would allow 850,00 square feet of retail stores, up to one million square feet of light industry and seven or eight multi-story office buildings.
