TRI-TECHNICAL SYSTEMS. Software manufacturer. Owned by Dubuque natives David and Juliana Cox, the company began as a software manufacturer for music retailers. Programs were designed to handle such functions as inventory, point-of-sale, and instrument rentals, payments, and repairs.

Started in Oklahoma, the company was relocated in 1988 to California and then to Dubuque in 1990. In 1997, as the only software manufacturer addressing this unique niche market, the company's products were used in over seven hundred stores internationally. Plans called for developing additional software for music lesson scheduling, payment and other applications.
