LORE, Antoine. Residents west of Dubuque originally considered naming a school Bahltown, in honor of George Bahl, who had been a primary force in its establishment. Because there already was a Balltown, a recommendation was made by Mr. Bahl to name it in honor of his friend and an early settler, Antoine Lore, who had operated the second smelting furnace in the area years earlier.
