SCHREMPF, Edward. (East Dubuque, IL, Sept. 3, 1861--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 14, 1939). Schrempf was by trade a cigar maker and was employed for many years by JOSEPH MICHEL. Schrempf later opened his own cigar manufacturing business, EDWARD SCHREMPF, which featured the "Dubuque Booster" cigar.

Schrempf first entered public life as president of the DUBUQUE TRADES AND LABOR CONGRESS, a position he held for several terms. While serving in this position he was elected in 1922 to the city council for seven years. While serving on the council, he brought about changes in working conditions of the city firemen and police offices and improvements in salary for both departments.

He retired from the city council and served three terms on the Board of Review. He was later appointed a member of the board of the CARNEGIE-STOUT PUBLIC LIBRARY.
