PHOENIX THEATRES. A Michigan-based company, Phoenix Theatres announced on January 16, 2018 that it would renovate and reopen the former site of MINDFRAME THEATERS at KENNEDY MALL. The company's plan was to open the six-screen theater in mid-March. The Dubuque location would be the fourth theater owned by Phoenix and the first outside of Michigan. Renovation would include removing and replace heating and air-conditioning, adding new signage, repainting the interior and installing new carpeting. All existing seating would be removed and replaced with fully reclining, heated seating. The theater's digital projection and sound system was also scheduled to be upgraded.

Phoenix Theatres opened its first location in 2000 by taking over an abandoned 10-screen theater in Detroit. In 2007 the oompany opened in Monroe, Michigan in a property owned by Cafaro, Company, the same business that owned Kennedy Mall. In 2009 Phoenix opened a ten-screen theater in Livonia, Michigan that had been abandoned. A theater owned by the city of Wayne, Michigan was purchased in 2014. An estimated forty employees would be hired.
