THEISEN, Leo N. (Holy Cross, IA, Jan. 17, 1902--Dubuque, IA, Nov. 9, 1995). Theisen and his wife, Kathryn, opened the Theisen Battery and Electric Company in 1927 on West 8th Street. During the GREAT DEPRESSION, Leo invested in tire recapping equipment that helped them survive financially through the 1930s and 1940s. (1)

They expanded into Theisen's Farm and Home Store in 1954. THEISEN'S HOME-FARM-AUTO developed into nine stores located throughout eastern Iowa.

In 1995, Theisen and his wife were inducted into the DUBUQUE BUSINESS HALL OF FAME.
