PUNT, PASS AND KICK CONTEST
PUNT, PASS AND KICK CONTEST. The Punt, Pass and Kick Contest was national contest sponsored by the National Football League. Chuck Costa was the first Iowan to participate in the finals when he was 11 years old. He was attending St. Anthony in 1966. (1)
In 1976 Jason Bonneville, then a sixth grade student at BRYANT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, became the first Dubuque entry to become an area winner. Bonneville became one of 168 to advance from a beginning field of over 3,800,000 contestants across the United States. He competed in the 11-year-old division in Milwaukee before 51,000 fans attending a Green Bay Packers-Minnesota Vikings game. Advertising posters for the contest bore a sketch (drawn by Norman Rockwell) of Michael MERCER and a boy.
