MCVAY, Shirley
MCVAY, Shirley. (Dubuque, IA, Nov. 13, 1937--Dubuque, IA, May 15, 2015). The daughter of Robert and Theresa (Foht) Sutter, Shirley graduated from St. Columbkille's high school in 1953 and married Maynard McVay on July 13, 1956 at ST. RAPHAEL'S CATHEDRAL.
Shirley worked for many years at the DUBUQUE GREYHOUND PARK AND CASINO. She also greatly enjoyed helping the Democratic Party. Especially known for her ability at "breaking the ice" in phone calls to potential voters, McVay always ended her calls with,"Thank you, Honey. and we know we can count on your vote." In 2015 she was declared Dubuque Democratic Party Volunteer of the Year upon the nomination of Carolyn Pfab KOPPES, herself a recipient of the honor.
