SLIMMER, Abraham
SLIMMER, Abraham. (Poland, Sept.16, 1835-Aug. 15,1917). Humanitarian. Slimmer, one of the Midwest's many fascinating businessmen, donated fifty thousand dollars to FINLEY HOSPITAL (THE) to be matched with equal funds. He later donated his home at 1185 White Street to the Humane Society.
Arriving in Dubuque in 1903 as a member of its JEWISH COMMUNITY, Slimmer had already accumulated fortunes in banking and cattle, but gave his money away at the speed with which he earned it.
