TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION. One of the first trade unions organized on a national level in 1852, the local union was formally organized on November 4, 1854. Local printers issued certificates to qualified traveling journeymen to protect themselves and their employers from those who fraudulently claimed to be journeymen. The union also worked to establish a "scale of prices regulating the price of labor."

The local union established a list of strikebreakers, a strike fund, and transfer rights.

Typographical Local No. 22 was listed in the 1939 through 1948 Dubuque Classified Business Directory listed 280 W. 6th.

The 1959 through 1968 Dubuque City Directory listed 111 W. 6th.
