HERRIG, Amy
HERRIG, Amy. (Dubuque, IA, June 16, 1977-- ). One of Dubuque’s most outstanding athletes, Herrig as a student at DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL was named to the first team Parade All-American; USA Today All-USA High School Girl’s Basketball Team; and second team Street and Smith All-American. She was also named second best post player in the national and eighth best player overall by Blue Star Index; Iowa’s Miss Basketball for the 1994-1995 season; and MVP of the Mississippi Valley Conference in her sophomore, junior, and senior years. Herrig was a two-time first team All-track, volleyball, and basketball athlete and state discus champion in her junior year.
While earning twelve varsity letters and competing at the varsity level in volleyball, basketball and track all four years, she maintained a 4.0 grade point average and was a valedictorian of her senior class.
Attending the University of Iowa, Herrig was one of only eight college players invited to participate in the Colorado Explosion (Pro Team) Camp. She later became the youngest player to be selected to the World University Team to travel to Italy and Sicily where she won a gold medal. (Photo Courtesy: Dubuque Community School District)
