O'HARE, Marvin
O’HARE, Marvin. (Waukegan, ILL-- ). received his educational degrees from the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE (BS), Iowa (MA), and Iowa State (PhD). He served as a teacher, coach and administrator in three Iowa communities: Humeston, Mid-Prairie and Ames. (1)
O’Hare moved to Dubuque in 1970 to serve the Dubuque Community School District as the first Director of Elementary Education (1970-1982), then assistant superintendent for Howard PIGG and then Diana LAMand in 1994 as superintendent of schools succeeding Lam. He was a strong advocate of early childhood education and sought in one of his first addresses to the public, keep the district moving forward on its current path, and to "provide stability and heal some hurt feelings in the district." (2) O'Hare was succeeded as superintendent by Dr. Joel MORRIS.
Since retiring in 1996, O’Hare has been active in community volunteer efforts serving youth on the Foster Care Review Board, St. Marks Community Center Board and the Dubuque County Empowerment Board (chairperson in 2008). He and his wife, Cathy, served as United Way Campaign Co-Chairs in 2001. (3)
