CHRISTMAN, Augustus. (Pennsylvania, Sept. 8, 1836--Unknown). Christman's parents came to Iowa in 1837 and located in Dubuque. Following service in the CIVIL WAR, he worked in the dry-goods trade. He established his own business in 1869 and was soon joined by his brother.

The firm of J. AND A. CHRISTMAN AND COMPANY located at 672 Main Street was a dealer in dry goods and notions. One of the company's clerks was Joseph Frederick STAMPFER. (1)
