HOMESTEAD (THE). In 1855, ''The Homestead'' was started at Racine, Wisconsin by Mark Miller. It was moved within a few years to Madison, and then to Dubuque, Iowa, and in 1861, the entire outfit was relocated in two wagons to Des Moines, Iowa where it continued in publication.
