Soon after he became the owner of his own business, Samson developed and began marketing Ball's Cherry Drops.  These were claimed to be a safe a reliable remedy for coughs, colds, and bronchitis.  The reference ''Antique Bottles of Iowa'' stated that this medicine was supplied to Union forces during the [[CIVIL WAR]].


The store was purchased in 1873 by [[RUETE, Theodore W.|Theodore W. RUETE]] who established the [[PIONEER DRUG STORE]] in the same location.
