Norman’s newspaper career began at ''The Central Record'' in Lancaster, Kentucky during his high school years. After returning from the US Army and graduating from the University of Kentucky, his career continued in Columbus and Franklin, Indiana at ''The Republic'' newspaper and the ''Daily Journal''.  


McMullin was named the publisher of the '''Telegraph Herald''' in 1978. He held the position until 1983 when he was appointed the president of the [[WOODWARD COMMUNICATIONS, INC.]]  
In 1966, Norman and Sally and their family moved to Dubuque where began his career at the ''Telegraph Herald'' as advertising director. Over the next two decades, his career advanced, eventually serving as business manager, and general manager. After the death of [[WOODWARD, Fred W.|Fred W. WOODWARD]] in 1975 no one held the title of publisher of the ''Telegraph Herald'' for three years. McMullin was named the publisher of the '''Telegraph Herald''' in 1978. He held the position until 1983 when he was appointed the president of the [[WOODWARD COMMUNICATIONS, INC.]] (1) He served as president of the company until January 1987. 


A former president of the multi-state Inland Press Association, McMullin ended his association with the newspaper and WCI in January 1987. He became president of '''St. Louis Suburban Journals'''. (2) In 2014 he was in the newspaper brokerage business in Phoenix, Arizona. (3)
Afterward, Norman was appointed president of the ''Suburban Journals'' of Greater St. Louis. In 1994, he founded his own consulting and brokerage company, continuing his service to the newspaper industry. Throughout his career, Norman held numerous leadership roles in professional organizations, including serving as president of the Inland Press Association, which honored him with its Distinguished Service Awards in 1987, 1988 and 1989. During retirement in Scottsdale, AZ, Norman enjoyed volunteering at the Desert Botanical Garden, reflecting his love for Arizona’s beautiful desert environment. (2)
