The original business was opened in Burlington in 1875 and branches had been established in Cedar Rapids, Creston, Davenport, Ottumwa, Clinton, and Quincy, Illinois. The company handled fruits, nuts, vegetables, and fresh oysters in season. It was a fruit wholesaler.
