UPTON, Samuel. (England, Feb. 15, 1832--Dubuque, IA, 1903). Upton came to America in 1850 and to Dubuque in 1852. He was involved in making brick and MINING before establishing a restaurant in 1862 on the corner Seventh and Main STREETS.
This was destroyed by fire in 1874. The AMERICAN RESTAURANT was rebuilt at 583 Main Street making it the oldest in the city.
Upton served two years as deputy marshal.
