When the [[CIVIL WAR]] broke out, he joined the Jackson Guards and fought in the battle of Wilson's Creek. In 1862, he entered the ice business and was the senior member of the firm of [[FISCHER, WHEELER AND COMPANY]].

FISCHER, Louis. (Bayern (Bavaria),Sept. 1837--Dubuque, IA, Nov. 13, 1875). Fischer came to Dubuque in 1856. When the CIVIL WAR broke out, he joined the Jackson Guards and fought in the battle of Wilson's Creek. In 1862, he entered the ice business and was the senior member of the firm of FISCHER, WHEELER AND COMPANY.

Upon his death, Louis Fischer's business interests were carried on by his wife, (Maria) Carolina Rhomberg FISCHER.
