Used before refrigeration, this candy cooler had a block of ice placed in a compartment at the very top of the cooler. Cool temperatures falling inside the display case kept the candy cool as did the icy water that dripped down inside a tube in the case. Candy Store. Miami, Arizona

Before electricity, two malted milks would be poured into glass or metal containers and then screwed in place at the top of the machine. An employee cranked a handle attached to a belt that shook the two containers filled with ice cream and malt. Candy Store. Miami, Arizona
