CHRISTMAN, Augustus. (Pennsylvania, Sept. 8, 1836--  ). Merchant.  Christman's parents came to Iowa in 1837 and located in Dubuque. Following service in the [[CIVIL WAR]], he worked in the dry-goods trade. He established his own business in 1869 and was soon joined by his brother. The firm of [[J. AND A. CHRISTMAN AND COMPANY]] located at 672 Main Street was a dealer in dry goods and notions.

The firm of J. AND A. CHRISTMAN AND COMPANY located at 672 Main Street was a dealer in dry goods and notions. One of the company's clerks was Joseph Frederick STAMPFER. (1)
