JOHN TIBEY. Tibey, a contractor of stone work and owner of a stone quarry of Dubuque, was the son of Patrick Tibey from Limerick, Ireland, who emigrated to the United States in 1850. 3d of May, 1862. On landing in this country, he moved to Dubuque and began business as a stone mason. John Tibey, his son, was born on May 3, 1862.
John Tibey learned the stone mason's trade as a youth and worked for two years with Mr. O'Hara, a prominent stone contractor of Cedar Rapids. He then returned to Dubuque began business for himself. He opened up a stone quarry and entered into contracts for the lying of foundations. He also did masonry work on the buildings and erected the original AUDUBON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
The 1909 Dubuque City Directory listed 11 Rush, a home he constructed, as his residence.
