Behr started his farm implement business in Sherrill in 1913 after obtaining the International Harvester contract. His business remained in Sherrill until 1924 operating out of a small frame building. (1)
 
In 1924 increased business led to the opening of a second store in Dubuque. A partnership was formed leading the business to be called the Farmers Supply Company. Behr left this partnership when his son, Irwin J., joined him in opening J. J. Behr Implement Company. Land was purchased and construction began on a 96 x 114 foot building at 15 South Main. In 1951 the company had fifty-one employees. (2)
 
The 1948 ''Dubuque Classified Business Directory'' through 1957 ''Dubuque City Directory'' listed 15 S. Main.


The 1964 through 1970 ''Dubuque City Directory'' listed the same address for J. J. Behr Farm & City Distributing Company.
