ROGERS, Thomas. (Fort Edward, NY, Oct. 14, 1808-Dubuque, IA, Feb. 6, 1874). Attorney. Advised by Senator Henry Clay to come to Iowa, Rogers moved to Burlington in 1839 from New York. A letter of introduction to Gen. [[JONES, George W.|George W. JONES]] from a Burlington attorney led Rogers to open his own practice in Dubuque the same year.

A popular man, Rogers was elected to the Iowa Legislature in 1840 and again in 1842 as a Democrat. He rejected opportunities to become the Surveyor General of Iowa and, in 1855, a United States district judge. Rogers ended his law practice and became a partner in a flour-milling business in 1858.
