River access brought in the raw products and trucks and tank cars carried out sulphuric acid manufactured in the plant on Julien Dubuque Drive. Algonquin Chemical Company came to Dubuque in 1947 from its former site at the Gopher Ordinance Works at Rosemount, Minnesota.
 
In 1952 the U. S. Industrial Chemicals Co. division of National Distillers and Chemical Corporation purchased Algonquin Company. The business was then operated through the U S. Industrial Chemicals division.
 
From 1952 through 1958 the Dubuque branch won the intra-plant safety record three times and shared it with another plant once. It also won three annual awards from the Manufacturing Chemicals Association.
