CHEWNING, Vincent. (Dubuque, IA--Dubuque, IA, Apr. 9, 1987). The son of Charles CHEWNING, Vincent attended COLUMBIA COLLEGE and graduated from BAYLESS BUSINESS COLLEGE.
In 1928 Chewning was associated with Renier's Music House and was an instructor of music. In 1930-1931 he conducted the Dubuque Juvenile Band at the DUBUQUE BOYS' CLUB in which a young John GRAAS first learned to play an alto horn. In 1937, Chewning was the musical director of the Dubuque Municipal Band.
