TOALE, Thomas (Rev.) (Independence, IA-). Educator. Beginning in 1987 Toale, a graduate of [[LORAS COLLEGE]], served as the Superintendent of Schools for the [[ARCHDIOCESE OF DUBUQUE]]. Toale's experience in education began as a classroom teacher from 1975 to 1977 at St. Joseph School in Key West. Ordained a priest in May 1981, he returned to classroom teaching from 1981 to 1984 and held the principalship from 1984 to 1986 at Marquette High School in Bellevue. Toale accepted the position of Associate Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese in 1986.

In 1988 and 1989 Toale was an instructor during the summer session at [[CLARKE COLLEGE]]. During the same two years he was also a guest lecturer at the University of Iowa where in 1988 he received his PhD. in educational administration.

In 2016 Msgr. Toale introduced an unorthodox approach to bringing people at distant location together. Employing the computer program Skype a means by which people can see each other while talking. In this way a retired nun who had served as a professor of
theology at [[CLARKE COLLEGE]] could discuss conversion to Catholicism with a man living in Texas. The man in Texas had wanted to take the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adult classes, but the courses had just been completed for the year. Through the computer discussions, the man was able to receive the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation at the same time their son was being baptized. (1)
