PHILLIPS, James R. (Dubuque, IA--  ). Business leader.  Phillips was 2nd team All-State quarterback and 1st team Mississippi Valley Conference his senior year at [[DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL]].  At the University of California (Berkeley), he captained the football team, was 2nd team All Pac 10, and earned his MBA-Marketing.

Completing graduate school in 1967, Phillips joined Levi Strauss & Company.  Working his way through a variety of assignments, he became vice president of sales for the Men's Jeans Division, the largest division in the United States.  Phillips was promoted to Vice President of Sales and Distribution with Brittania, a division of Levi Strauss & Company and for two years was president of Koret Canada, another division of Levi Strauss.  Phillips was a member of Big Brothers of America and active in United Way, Little League, and the Boy Scouts.
