WALKER, F.T. (Lindsay, Ontario, Canada, Aug. 1, 1841-- ). Attorney in the firm of Walker & Rhomberg on the corner of 5th and Main. Walker came to Iowa and settled in Dubuque on April 15, 1864. He entered the law office of Griffith & Knight where he read law, completed his law studies, and was admitted to the bar in 1867.
WALKER, F.T. (Lindsay, Ontario, Canada, Aug. 1, 1841--Island of Capri, Feb. 6, 1889). The youngest in a family of seven children, Walker showed an early interest in learning which convinced his parents to send him to school in Montreal, Quebec and later to Regiopolis, Kingston.  


In August, 1875, formed his legal partnership and engaged in the law, loans, real estate and collecting business in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota. In five years around 1880 they loaned over $1,000,000. Histories of their day claimed the partners owned the only complete set of abstract books in Dubuque County.
He moved to Dubuque in April, 1865. He studied law in the offices of Griffith and Knight and after passing the bar formed a partnership with Alonzo Cragin. This lasted until 1873 when the legal, loan and real estate firm of Walker and Rhomberg was formed. (1) His service as an alderman in Dubuque ended in 1877. (2) He was elected to the executive committee of a Tax-Payers League in 1879. (3)


The investments Walker owned ran from Austin, Texas to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. In 1883 after the reorganization of the First National Bank of Grafton, North Dakota, Walker was named president. (4) In August, 1885 he was one of the stockholders and directors of the newly formed Dubuque Mortgage, Loan and Trust Company. (5)
