SWIFT, Susan. (Benton, WI--  ). Educator. In 2009 Swift, an English teacher at [[HEMPSTEAD HIGH SCHOOL]] was the first finalist for [[IOWA TEACHER OF THE YEAR]] from Dubuque. At the time, she had been teaching for twenty-five years. Swift received her BA degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her master’s degree in American Literature from [[LORAS COLLEGE]].

At the time, she had been teaching for twenty-five years. Swift received her BA degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her master’s degree in American literature from [[LORAS COLLEGE]].


Swift had been involved in many organizations and programs throughout her career including the Iowa Writing Project, the National Writing Project, Iowa Poetry Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, and the National Education Association and Iowa State Education Association. She had previously received several prestigious awards including the 2008 Dubuque Community School District Teacher of the Year, 2007 & 2005 Iowa Governor’s Scholastic “Favorite Teacher Award” Recognition, and the 2005 KWWL Gold Star Award for Outstanding Teaching. She was also a National Board Certified Teacher.
Swift had been involved in many organizations and programs throughout her career. In 1987 she was a member of the Dubuque Fine Arts Players. (1) Her theatrical continued in 1989 with the Barn Community Theatre production of "I Oughta To Be in Pictures, a Neil Simon comedy. (2) She was also active the Iowa Writing Project, the National Writing Project, Iowa Poetry Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, and the National Education Association and Iowa State Education Association. In 2003 she had some of her work published in '''Lyrical Iowa,''' the anthology of the Iowa Poetry Association. (3)
