He served as county chairman of the American Red Cross, chairman of the Tax and Legislative Committee of the National Tobacco Distributors, and president and chairman of the Iowa Association of Tobacco Distributors.
A former president of the Dubuque Community School Board, Poinsett was also a director of the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE and the DUBUQUE AUTOMOBILE CLUB. He was a member of the DUBUQUE SHOOTING SOCIETY.
