BUSBY, Alfred J. (Waverly, IA, 1877--Waterloo, IA, Apr. 20, 1935). As a young man, Alfred came to Dubuque and worked in the box office of the [[GRAND OPERA HOUSE]] during the days of road shows. Later he was joined by bis brothers Eben and William in the theater business establishing the Iowa-Illinois Circuit that operated about thirty theaters.  One manager could arranging bookings at multiple theaters and therefore offered the best travel arrangements for shows looking for work. William died in 1934.

Leaving Dubuque, Alfred moved to Marshalltown, Iowa where he owned and operated the Odeon Theatre for five years. He then moved to Waterloo where he managed the Waterloo Theatre for twenty years.

The [[BUSBY BROTHERS]] also owned the Busby Poster Advertising Company. In March, 1934 Alfred sold his interests in this company to his brother, Eben and had planned on a trip around the world.  His health had deteriorated after a fall just days before his death.
