DUBUQUE GIRLS NOVELTY ORCHESTRA. The musical group was formed in 1923 to perform at local conventions and dances. After performing on WOC Davenport in October 1924, they were asked to perform at the Lumbo Theatre in Freeport, Illinois. (1) In December that year, they performed at SUNNYCREST SANITORIUM.
The orchestra went on to perform at state fairs. On October 14 and 17, 1925 when they were featured on WGN radio as the only all-woman orchestra in the Tri-State region, they were assisted by Albert CARNEY. (2) Many of the members moved on to play in New York vaudeville shows.
