After her retirement from teaching in 1989, she continued to provide assistance with bulletin boards and displays - but her most outstanding performances were as Dubuque's Story Lady, dressing in costumes ranging from Pilgrims to Santa's sister, and reading to generations of children. In addition to story telling, she volunteered at the [[DUBUQUE ARBORETUM AND BOTANICAL GARDENS]] and at [[FINLEY HOSPITAL (THE)]], and served in various positions for the DI Chapter of the National T.T.T. Society, Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma for Women Educators. She a member of the [[DUBUQUE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION]], the Dubuque's Retired Teachers Association and Chapter OI of P.E.O.
