SMITH, Terry. (Dubuque, IA- ). Student of judo. Smith, associated with the [[LORAS JUDO CLUB]] for thirty years, received a first degree black belt in 1970 and a fourth degree black belt in 1990. In 1991 only three other Iowans held a belt of similar rank and only one other person had a higher degree belt. In national competition, Smith placed fourth in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1981. He has been nationally certified as a referee since 1988. A member of the Iowa Promotion Board since 1974, Smith spent fourteen years conducting a junior program. During the Iowa Games in August 1991 Smith's team won three championships.
