MEYER TAVERN. The 1955 through 1977 Dubuque City Directory listed 530 E. 22nd.

In 1964 although liquor was legal in Iowa, taverns were not allowed to use signs advertising "liquor," "bar," or "saloon."

Vernon Meyer, the operator, used the sign shown. Meyer said the advertisement caused a great deal of conversation including many people questioning whether the owner's name was "Booze."
