At 50 John returned to Bonsall and courted a young widow. They came to Iowa and married at Dubuque in 1850. Later Mary's whole family moved to Dubuque. The Burton's Furnace Road in the area in 2012 undoubtedly relates to the smelter he operated in the 1830s. | |||

BURTON, John. (Bonsall, Derbyshire, England, ABT. 1799--Dubuque, IA, 1854) John partnered with Thomas first at farming in New York state, then in Dubuque as smelters of lead in Durango.
At 50 John returned to Bonsall and courted a young widow. They came to Iowa and married at Dubuque in 1850. Later Mary's whole family moved to Dubuque. The Burton's Furnace Road in the area in 2012 undoubtedly relates to the smelter he operated in the 1830s.
John married Mary Barton Gell. Their daughter was Mary Burton.
